Well, it’s happening.  A few years ago, I was priveleged enough to be asked to be part of the planning committee for the 2007 Mennonite convention  in San Jose, that is to be held this coming week, July 2 -7.  I will be running a sound stage and doing some ushering in between.  It should be fun, and I’m sure that I will have more to say about it once it is all wrapped up.  We will also be spending the weekend with Mama & Papa Krabill and some other friends in the area.

The following week my folks will be in town for a visit, and the week after I finally start my new job at UVA.  In the meantime, I have been doing some work for an ex-boss and friend of mine at a print shop, Indigo Night.  Check out the link, it makes for an excellent, really thoughtful gift.

It is with great joy and thankfulness that I can say I am now employed at the University of Virginia. First and foremost, it is another testament to the Lord’s faithfulness in my life, and another example of how the Lord often blesses us in ways that we cannot fully know or expect. It has been a long journey, where I have had to battle some self-esteem issues, where my patience has been tested, where I have had to work hard not to fall into laziness, and where we have had to be, not only conscious but intentional, of every penny spent. And while all of these things don’t end per se, I just feel like myself again.

“It used to be Mass-a-nothin, but now it’s Mass-a-something!” So said our tour guide as she showed us around the Massanutten Resort near Harrisonburg, VA. But let me back up. About three or four weeks ago, a group of us had gone out to Applebee’s to celebrate the end ofthe school year for one of our friends. So, being in a goofy mood, I decided to fill out the sweepstakes to win $250,000 cash or a $500,000 dream home. You can’t win if you don’t play right?

In what ended up being a full day affair, Elisabeth and I traveled up to Washington, DC on Sunday night to participate in the kick off church service for Sojourners’ Pentecost 2007 event. This open-to-the-public service, entitled “Justice Revival! An evening of inspiration, challenge, and hope” was held at the National City Christian Church (NCCC) and is part of a three day conference that will offer various workshops, seminars, and a Candidates’ forum featuring Senator Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton, and former Senator John Edwards. The primary purpose of the conference is to call individuals, churches, and political leaders to commit to putting poverty at the top of the national agenda.

Another belated posting. Our busy hosting month concluded with a visit from Matthew, who flew in from California, and Brad, who flew in from Guatemala. However, our pull is not as strong as you might think. They actually came initially for a wedding of a close friend, but of course took advantage to hang out with us. Everybody wins! As some of you may have guessed, we did a fair bit of straight chilling, one of our favorite pastimes. We did hit up the downtown mall as well, which is another favorite Charlottesville pastime. Brad will still be hanging around for another week, due to an unexpected but welcome turn of fortune. Both Matthew and Brad’s blogs are linked on the sidebar – check them out.
