I guess I should make some sort of progress report regarding the job search. It’s been over a month now that I learned that my position at ECO would be dropping down in hours and that I would have to find something else. By now I have trained my part-time replacement and am into my second week as a domestic house-husband caretaker person. (Clearly I have yet to settle on an appropriate interim title). The number of applications submitted is now up to over 30, and I still have to do a little bit of follow up, as well as continue submitting applications.

June is a full month with visitors, which is a very fun thing. Last weekend Lauren came up from Chattanooga. We missed Erik, but it was great to be able to get some quality time with Lauren. I don’t know how much wedding planning was actually done (their wedding is coming up in just four months), but we sure had a fun and relaxing time. This coming weekend, we will welcome Matthew and Brad, who are in town for a wedding in Harrisonburg. I wonder if we will go and peruse the downtown mall??? ;)

This past weekend we had the privilege of hosting the one and only Mary Laura. We had a fantastic time just hanging out, but also enjoying the nice day out on the mall and heading over to Crozet for their Annual Arts and Crafts Festival. There was a great variety of wonderful Arts and Crafts, ranging from hammocks to wood work to paintings to jewelry. And we couldn’t resist in partaking of some delicious pulled pork sandwiches and everyone’s favorite fair treat, funnelcake.

Under the constant pressure of making this the best blog in the history of the world, there have been a few changes made.  Trips page deleted, new vids posted, and some new photos.  Enjoy!

I’ve uploaded some photos on the Photos page, from our time out in California. More trip photos will be coming soon.

Here is a little update for all-a-y’all. To date, I have applied to at least 15 different places, with still a couple of other leads pending. A seemingly good pool you would think, but I need to remain relentless. I have intentionally chosen to find an office job for this season of my life for several reasons. At a very basic level, decent income for the many, many bills that seem to never stop arriving. But most importantly, I believe that this type of setting will allow me to more fully invest into other important areas I want to invest in, namely, my marriage, community, and music. I have done social work in the past, and while it can be extremely rewarding, I suspect that the emotional strain would not allow me to invest in those other areas as I would like. I was, have been, and most likely will continue to look for something that will allow me to “check out,” and not bring any emotional baggage home. In another stage of life, I definitely will choose employment that I want to deeply invest in, but that is another story. Read the rest of this entry »
