Happy Birthday to me!

I’m now 28. Lord have mercy on us all.

Age is a funny thing. It simultaneously unites and separates us; it defines us as we define it; we eagerly anticipate it and we defy it. I remember when I could not wait to be 16, then 18, then 21, and then… hmm, all of sudden, I kind of stopped having countdowns, I kind of stopped thinking about it, or worse, began to have negative thoughts. I got to an age where more and more, I started hearing phrases like “getting old,” “downhill” and “grandpa” from my friends, peers and even my wife!! After all, 28 is almost 30, and that’s almost 40, and then we all now what happens next…
